Thanks to the tireless efforts of CWILL.BC (Children’s Writers & Illustrators of British Columbia Society), the Family Support & Resource Centre at BC Children’s Hospital will launch a Storytime Program on September 10th.
On the first Tuesday of every month, authors and illustrators from CWILL.BC will read a story or two to kids and their families in the Ambulatory Care Building at BC Children’s Hospital. Author Dan Bar-el and illustrator Rae Maté will kick things off, followed on October 1st by celebrity author and illustrator Marie-Louise Gay, who will be stopping by as part of her Canada-wide tour.
The Storytime Program is thanks to the Walking Read Gala, which took place on June 14, celebrated 20 years of CWILL.BC, and raised $16,335 for the Family Support & Resource Centre!
Partygoers, dressed as their favourite children’s book characters, enjoyed an evening of live music, a silent auction of fabulous donated items, and a photo booth, all while nibbling on treats from Truffles (VanDusen) and Riverside Palace, and sipping drinks from Parallel 49 Brewing Company and Jackson Triggs Winery.
This generous gift comes at a crucial time, and will help fund new programs and services to support education for patients, siblings and families visiting the Hospital. Along with the Storytime Program, an iPad loaning program is in the works along with several other exciting projects.
