YAC for Youth

Youth pictureThe Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) consists of patients and ex-patients, including siblings, of BC Children’s Hospital determined to improve the experience of patients by providing their own unique experiences.

YAC is a group of young individuals determined to have their voice heard so the growth of the hospital will continue on the best path possible. This team meets at the beginning of every month to either plan events such as in August 2012, when the YAC held an Ice cream Social for the purpose of finding more members. YAC also provided staff and patients with delicious ice cream provided by Dairy Queen, upon donation. At this event YAC gained many more members and raised $450 for future events.

Another event that YAC participated in was the walk held at a warehouse filled with made up cardboard walls. This was the lay out of what the new BC Children’s Hospital emergency room was supposed to look like. This was a wonderful experience for the youth and was very exciting to feel needed in this process. These are a couple of examples of the work and events that YAC participates in.
